Poet and filmmaker Gauri Awasthi’s poetry collection, Mother Wound (Trio House Press) will be released on on Oct 1, 2026 and is available for orders. Poet Eileen Myles describes the poems as “bright and incidental.” The collection examines the inheritance of trauma from the speaker’s mother while grappling with questions of identity as a woman and non-citizen living between countries. Structured around the rhythm cycle of Indian classical music (SA-RE-GA-MA-PA-DHA-NI-SA, equivalent to Western Solfège), the book unfolds in eight sections, each corresponding to a musical note, with eight poems per section.
