The Community of Writers formally acknowledges its debt to the original people of this valley. For thousands of years the Wasiiw, now called Washoe, lived here from snowmelt through summer. The Washoe still live in their ancestral lands today. The valley’s creeks and marshes provided game and forage for the Wasiiw, who knew this land intimately and worked with it wisely. We recognize and honor their history, traditions, and care.
