Karen Fang’s book, Background Artist: The Life and Work of Tyrus Wong (Rutgers UP, 2024) was named a finalist by the Theatre Library Association for the 2024 Richard Wall Memorial Award for exemplary performance in recorded media. Partly developed in the Writers Workshop for Nonfiction in Summer with the support of the James Houston Memorial Fellowship, Background Artist is the biography of the Chinese immigrant artist, centenarian, and Disney Legend who helped make Bambi.
