2023 July Events During The Writers Workshops in Fiction, Nonfiction & Memoir

July 19-25, 2022

The Community of Writers Writers Workshops conference will take place in Olympic Valley July 11-16. You are invited to join us throughout the week for public craft talks, panels, and readings by the authors, agents and editors. Public events begin at 1:00 PM starting on Tuesday, July 11. (Schedule is subject to change. Check back for up-to-date programming info.) 

Due to COVID-19 we will try to gather outdoors. Daytime events under a tent; evening events under the stars. Evenings can be chilly, dress in layers and wear a jacket if needed.

Daytime Panels & Craft Talks

Don’t miss the chance to hear our teachings staff (writers, agents and editors) share insights into the craft and business of writing. Topics are new each year, with the exception of our popular publishing panels, which feature agents, editors, and publishers providing insights and answering questions on this shifting landscape. Most panels and craft talks take place during the afternoon. For daytime events, admission is free to the public and no reservations are required. Join us!

Most Craft Talks and Panels will take place outside on the Bar One deck of the Olympic House between 1 and 4 pm. 1990 Shirley Canyon Road, Olympic Valley, CA 96146.

Craft talks this year will be given by: Janet Fitch, Héctor Tobar & David Ulin. (See schedule of events.)

Late Afternoon Short Takes Readings

On many afternoons during the Writers Workshops, we invite staff members to read brief works of fiction and nonfiction, published and unpublished. Admission is free to the public and no reservations are required. Masking and Proof of Vaccination may be required.

Most afternoon readings will take place outside the Olympic House at 5:30 pm on the KT Deck. (See schedule of events.)

Special Evening Events

Reservations and/or ticket purchase recommended: Suggested donation $25/$10 student. No one will be turned away.

The Community of Writers also invites you to attend our remarkable evening events. This year we offer five special evening events with readings by authors with new publications as well as a free alumnae reading. All 7:30 events have a suggested donation of $25 adult/$10 Student. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Books will be available for purchase.

Most evening events will take place on the KT-22 deck outside Plaza Bar at the the Olympic House at 7:30 pm.

On Wednesday, July 11 at 5:30 pm we present The 2022 Published Alumni Reading Series.

The Community of Writers is delighted to celebrate the success of these writers and to present them to the participants, staff, and the public.

No reservation required.
