Barbara Stepansky

Barbara Stepansky is an award-winning independent feature film director and writer. Her work was short listed for the Academy Awards, garnered the DGA Diversity Award and the Student Emmy. She is the recipient of the the Franklin J. Schaffner AFI Fellow Award. Born in Poland, her father’s involvement in the Solidarity movement led to the family relocating to Germany. After receiving a degree in philosophy of science from University College London, Barbara pursued her Master’s at the USC School of Cinematic Arts and in Directing at the American Film Institute with her acclaimed short filmThe Trojan Cow. Her first feature film Hurt, starring Melora Walters (Big Love) and William Mapother (Lost), currently plays on Showtime. She has broken into the top ten most downloaded horror feature films on iTunes with her second feature Fugue. She currently completedFinal Recourse with Teri Polo and Chazz Palminteri and is in development on several screenplay projects with Fishbowl Films, Blanc/Biehn Productions and Fuerst Film. She attended the Community of Writers in 2011.
