Let’s each do our part to keep this community healthy. Check this page for updates about health and safety requirements. These requirements may change without notice.
The Community of Writers is delighted to meet in person again this summer. The COVID-19 pandemic has largely subsided, but still, we are committed to protecting the health of our participants, teaching staff, employees, and visitors. This summer, we will continue to observe the established protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Department of Public Health, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
We encourage every individual to make informed decisions about attending our events in the best interest of their own health as well as the health of others. Because attending requires some contact with others, if applicants cannot or choose not to follow the on-site health and safety requirements, we cannot consider your application. Please consider that many of the most treasured members of the literary community might have preexisting health conditions, or be senior citizens.
WHAT DOES THE COMMUNITY OF WRITERS REQUIRE TO ATTEND?
Participants must prove that they have had a negative COVID home test within 72 hours of attending. We also ask that participants be up-to-date with vaccinations and have obtained the most recent booster. We need to require that you stay home if you are experiencing symptoms or have a positive COVID test. This protocol was successful last summer, as we had no transmission of COVID at the workshops.
WHAT ARE THE MASK REQUIREMENTS?
Face masks may be required in all indoor public settings. If masks are to be required, they must cover nose and mouth. Presently, we don’t plan on requiring masks for indoor gatherings, but we will monitor the pandemic, and if need be, that may change because the virus continues to mutate. We will keep our attendees notified as things change.
We will hold most morning sessions and group meetings outdoors under tents, when possible. We will have fans and portable air purifiers on site as well as masks, hand sanitizer.
Your Expectations
- — All CW teaching staff and admin working on site will have been fully vaccinated.
- — All participants, when applying online, will have confirmed that they are vaccinated.
RECOGNIZE RISK
While the Community of Writers is taking precautions and enforcing safety measures, we cannot guarantee zero risk; a risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public setting. By entering the venue and CW-arranged housing, participants, staff, and attendees accept the risk of exposure and knowingly waive and release the Community of Writers from any liability or financial refund related to COVID-19.
We will reassess this policy on an ongoing basis. We reserve the right to change, adopt, and enforce safety measures as needed.
- Failure to comply with safety procedures outlined by management may result in your removal from Community of Writers events, housing, venue, and activities.
WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU CONTRACT COVID-19 AT THE WORKSHOPS
If a participant feels ill and tests positive during the workshop, they should immediately inform the administrative office, their housemates, their workshop fellows, and, if they are staying in the resort lodging, inform the front desk. The participant will be asked to avoid contact with all participants and staff, which would mean not attending workshops, dinner, or afternoon events. The Community of Writers inform the group at large of the transmission, and will work with the affected participant to arrange alternative lodging, if necessary. CW will do our best to care for the sick participants according to their wishes, including providing meals, advice, and rides to medical visits, until arrangements can be made to travel home.
