Please join us as we partner with Beers Books and Random Lane Summer Poetry Reading Series for a poetry reading to celebrate our anthology Why to These Rocks: 50 Years of Poetry from the Community of Writers.

Lisa Alvarez has edited two landmark collections: Writer’s Workshop in a Book: The Community of Writers on the Art of Fiction with Alan Cheuse and Orange County: A Literary Field Guide with Andrew Tonkovich. She is a fiction writer and poet whose work has appeared in Huizache, PANK, Santa Monica Review and others. Her commentary has been featured in the Los Angeles Times. She teaches writing at Irvine Valley College and co-directs the Community of Writers.

Bob Stanley was poet laureate of Sacramento from 2009 to 2012. He has published two chapbooks Eleven Blue Strings (little m press) and Walt Whitman Orders a Cheeseburger (Rattlesnake Press). Bob serves as President of the Sacramento Poetry Center, and he teaches English at California State University, Sacramento and Sacramento City College. Nis new poetry collection, Miracle Shine, was published by CW Books in May 2013. In his spare time he barbecues unlucky salmon and juggles kittens.

Ray Tatar has been with the California Arts Council for 21 years. He is the manager of the Organizational Grants Program and has special expertise in theater. He is the founding Director of the Los Angeles Theater Alliance, The Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance, and the Sacramento Theater League.

Michael Young is a bookseller at City Lights Books.
